Ardmore Single Cask – bottled for Viskiryhmä Turku
June 22, 2026Glenfiddich Pure Malt review

This single malt whisky comes from Speyside region’s Glenfiddich distillery and the name Pure Malt was first introduced by Glenfiddich in 1963. Pure Malt means that it’s single malt from single distillery and that was the first term used when Glenfiddich decided to introduce a single malt whisky into its core range.
So we are looking at an iconic whisky product in its category. A pioneer shifting the industry standard away from blended whiskies. Unfortunately this bottling that I got a chance to taste, wasn’t from the late 1960s. It’s from 1990s, bought from a ferry sailing between Sweden and Finland.
Tried to find some more information about it, about the maturation or age, but unfortunately couldn’t find more information.

Better than modern core Glenfiddich
Since this was a sample provided by a mate who owns the bottle, my notes are quite short. I think this was much better than the 12 year old Glenfiddich I tasted several years back. Haven’t really been a fan of any of their products, but this old core range bottling made it as my favorite one.
And even though this bottling is very late within Pure Malt lifecycle, production ended in early 2000. I must add that it was simply a pleasure to taste a single malt which started the category trend.
