All posts regarding beer. Once in a while, I bump into great beer. Occasionally I have to write about it. From here you can read some of my good beer experiences. Below is a cheat sheet for different types of beers, descriptions for each type from lager to ale, from stout to wheat beer.

  • Pale lager – Highly carbonated, usually with mild flavors and crispy finish.
  • Blonde ale – mildly malty flavors and usually low to medium bitter notes from hops.
  • Hefeweizen aka wheat beer – cloudy body with significant yeast flavors.
  • Pale ale – earthy, spicy and aromatic flavors.
  • IPA aka Indian Pale Ale – usually very pronounced hop profile all the way from the nose to the finish.
  • Amber ale – malt flavors and usually some balanced hop bitterness.
  • Irish red ale – malt highlighted with caramel sweetness.
  • Brown ale – dark malty flavors with caramel and coffee.
  • Porter – usually chocolate notes and mild roast in the finish.
  • Stout – heavy roasted flavors and notes of coffee, chocolate, molasses.
