This barrel aged stout comes from the famous Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. I like their products, especially Torpedo Extra IPA is one of my favorites.
I was excited to hear that they’ve made a stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. And in my opinion, they’ve succeeded very well with this expression.
Bourbon sweetness is there but it gives enough room for the stout’s natural ingredients.
Beer type: Imperial Stout
ABV: 11.9%
IBU: 50
Colour: Black
Nose: Mix of sweet and toasted notes. Vanilla and coffee along with chocolate notes.
Taste: Espresso and roasted notes dominate, and bourbon sweetness is there but it stays in the back. Just the way I like it, whiskey influence in the mix but not overly sweetening the thick imperial stout body.
Scoring
Even though not a full ten point beer, I had to review it because of the major whisky influence.
