Yoichi 10 year old review

WhiskyRant! review of Yoichi 10 year old single malt
Nikka Yoichi 10 year old single malt comes from the Hokkaido island in Japan. Matured in new oak Hogshead barrels, which are built on-site. In conditions, where the temperature varies very much.
Yoichi 10YO is like velvet in your mouth. Manages to be oily enough, but not too oily to make a nice velvet coating. And the velvet comes with nice flavours, a combo of dark and sweet notes, with creamy texture.

SOME VELVET MORNING in Japan

Like Some Velvet Morning, this dram manages to be dark and mysterious. Being much better than the movie, more like the song by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood – lots of layers with tender and strong notes.

Nose: Malted barley similar to beer, then fresh barley and fruits. Floral notes at the end. Fresh, vibrant and dark.
Taste: Oil makes a velvet entrance on your palate, then turns into coal smoke. Vanilla, nuts, fruits and toffee.
Finish: Creamy, with oak and fruits. Deep smoke in the aftertaste.
Balance: Deep, dark and velvety tones coming through in every step of the tasting. Great single malt whisky from Japan.
Color: Golden amber
Nose: 22  |  Taste: 23  |  Finish: 23  |  Balance: 22
Overall score: 90 points

Distillery: Yoichi
Region: Yoichi, Hokkaido, Japan
Owner: Nikka Whisky Distilling
ABV: 45%
Non-chill filtered
