December 5, 2014Balvenie DoubleWood 12 year old review
The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 year old single malt has been matured in two different wood types. Matured in ex-bourbon casks and then transferred into first fill European oak sherry casks. Full and smooth dram, that manages to be moderately dry. Suits well for me, who isn’t that passionate for über dry drams.
This has to be EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND of whiskies
When I was sipping Balvenie DoubleWood 12YO, it made me feel like it has to be a whisky, everyone likes. Sort of like someone, who is everybody’s friend. Ray Barone’s character from the hit TV show Everybody Loves Raymond, comes to mind.
And I mean all that in a good way. This dram is easy to drink – it is smoothly pleasant with small hints of crispy character.
Nose: Great nose of sweet and fruity notes. The sherry influence is very present. Grapes and vanilla come together nicely.
Taste: Smooth combination of nuts, cinnamon apples and delicate sherry.
Finish: Crispy and lingering finish with warming spices and strong dryness. Sherry oak lasts long.
Balance: Full and sophisticated dram. This whisky is very easy to like.
