December 29, 2022Fettercairn 12 year old whisky review

Fettercairn distillery is located under the Grampian foothills in the Howe of Mearns in the region of Highland. Fettercairn is also the town’s name, loosely based on the phrase “the foot of the mountain”. The distillery is owned by Whyte & Mackay Distillers, like Dalmore and Jura.
This 12 year old single malt whisky aged in American White Oak Bourbon casks is part of their core range. Fettercairn hasn’t yet jumped into the bandwagon of NAS (non age stated) whisky releases. They probably have limited editions in the horizon but their core range starts from 12 year old single malt.
Tasting notes
I must admit, I can’t find much bad things to say about this whisky. It’s very mellow. I guess for me, that’s a bad thing to say. But overall, it’s just in the 80 point category which means good in my book.
So I like it, even though the lack of character is present. Fettercairn 12YO is not going to be my favorite, but I can still recommend it to everyone in need for a light, fruity whisky.
