Glenglassaugh Portsoy review

Glenglassaugh Portsoy peated whisky

Closed in 1986 yet resurrected in 2008, Glenglassaugh distillery has nicely managed to widen its whisky range. Glenglassaugh Portsoy gets its name from the neighbouring harbour village, because both have deep maritime elements featured in them.

Portsoy is a peated whisky matured in combination of sherry, bourbon and port casks.

Living up to its potential

I had only tasted one Glenglassaugh before this, it was a follow up expression for Revival, their first launch after distillery’s resurrection. Glenglassaugh Evolution felt nice and it had potential. Feels like with Portsoy, they’ve managed to live up to the potential.

Matured in:
Ex-Bourbon, Sherry and Port casks
Colour: Deep amber
Nose: Bold maritime notes in seamless union with tropical fruits. Dark sherried notes rise from the back. Aromas are best part.
Taste: Quite full, dark chocolate and toasted tropical fruits being the main event. Even hints of liquorice and many salty notes lingering.
Finish: Maritime feel hits more in aftertaste. Along with fruity tones.
Balance: Quite rich and seems to be in balance, probably expected more power but was in no ways, disappointing.
