Highland Park 18 year old review

March 13, 2015The Glenlivet Nadurra 16 year old review
Glenlivet Nàdurra 16 year old is a small batch cask strength single malt whisky, “nadurra” meaning natural in Gaelic. Based on the alcohol per volume level and the time I bought it, I think that this sample is from the batch bottled in January 2014.
Resembling a lot of Glenlivet 12YO, which i liked very much. Nàdurra is matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks. It does have that rich texture and full body, that non-chill filtered whiskies should have. Without chill filtration the whisky gets more of the natural oils.
A whisky can BE COOL, full and fresh
Very fresh and fruity with a thick, sweet palate. Entertaining and enjoyable whisky. Strong, yet mellow and fruity character – like Elliot Wilhelm (played by Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock) from the movie Be Cool. Elliot Wilhelm is a gay, country western-singing bodyguard, who brings a fruity and spicy side into the movie.
He does just the same, that Glenlivet Nàdurra 16YO does. And both do it fabulously. This dram is worth a try, I’ll even suggest you to get a whole bottle if you can.
Nose: Starts off with sweet and heavy apricot marmalade and fruity liqueur, which turns into chalk licorice. Wee smoke is there too.
Taste: Crispy and full. Thick and sweet, like jam. Occasionally bitter. Green apples, tropical fruits and hints of lemon. Bit of oak and vanilla as well.
Finish: Dry and crispy, like bitter orange marmalade with spices and little bit of ginger.
Balance: Rich, thick and freshly fruity dram. Good single malt from the great Speyside distillery.
Colour: Pale gold
