Redbreast Lustau Single Pot Still review

Redbreast Lustau Edition

Redbreast Lustau Edition is an Irish single pot still whiskey by the New Middleton distillery in Cork. They are famous for making single pot still, also known as pure pot still whiskeys. Redbreast has so far been the only single pot still brand producing age stated whiskey. Lustau Edition being an exception, of course.

This fairly new expression to Redbreast range was introduced in the latter half of 2016. It is a mixture of Irish single pot still whiskeys aged for 9 to 12 years in a combination of American and European oak casks before being transferred to first fill Oloroso Sherry butts from Bodegas Lustau for a finishing year.

Another fine Redbreast expression

Redbreast Lustau continues to good track record of Irish single pot still whiskeys by New Middleton distillery. Redbreast is one of my favorite brands and with Lustau, they manage to keep that position.

This is surprisingly good for a NAS (non age stated) whiskey. But that’s because of craftsmanship of the distillery in question. They know how to do a well seasoned, tasty dram, whether it’s been matured over 10 years or below.

Matured in:
Combination of American and European casks, finished in Ex-Oloroso Sherry butts.
ABV: 46%
Bottle code: L802531023 11:27
Colour: Golden amber
Non-chill filtered
Nose: Green apples and orange peel. Juicy and fresh, bit nutty. Figs and hints of dry, acid sherry.
Taste: Crispy with sugared cherries and plums. Chewy honey with hints of cinnamon. Sweet sherry notes are there too.
Finish: Slightly bitter but sweet sherry finish. Nutty notes dominate. Hints of green apples. The finish is subtle with nice length.
Balance: Pleasant dram, tasty and easy to drink. Very sweet.
