Scapa 16 year old review

WhiskyRant! review of Scapa 16 year old single malt

Scapa 16 year old single malt whisky is matured in New American oak casks. Coming from the island of Orkney, the sea breeze does show in it. The package already tells you a story, what’s coming. Looks like a view from a lighthouse. And the whisky surely feels like it.

Feeling the mystery of SHUTTER ISLAND

Reminds me of the movie Shutter Island, where the movie trailer told the story for you. It did ruin the movie a bit for me, which isn’t the case with Scapa 16 yrs. The package doesn’t ruin anything. On the contrary, I like the way it gives you an idea about the content. And the idea is executed very well.

I feel like I’m in a mystery lighthouse on Shutter Island, sipping away some great single malt, feeling the salty sea air breezing through. And just like the movie, this whisky isn’t a mystery to me. And I like it!

Matured in:
New American oak casks
Colour: Pale straw
Nose: Delicate smoke, salty sea breeze and earthly tones. Malt and honey are the main attractions. Water adds peat in the mix.
Taste: Delicate peat with herbs, cinnamon and tea. Very earthly. Simple and delicious dram.
Finish: Hints of smoke and honey. Peat dominates, water makes it even more peaty.
Balance: Pretty straight forward whisky. Refreshing stuff!

More written reviews for this whisky than video reviews. They include ones by The Scotch Noob and Whisky Rant. Over on YouTube there are reviews from Scott (and his nephew) at Scotch Test Dummies, A Dram A Day
