I had previously tasted batch 10 of Springbank 12 year old Cask Strength single malt. I fell in love with it. Now it was time for batch 13 in a local Finnish whisky tasting. And what another wonderful release of Springbank’s 12YO CS it was. This Campbeltown based distillery malt, bottled with a whopping 56,3% ABV felt even slightly better than batch 10.
Springbank 12YO Cask Strength Batch 13 has been bottled in 2016, matured in 70% Ex-Sherry and 30% Ex-Bourbon casks. It comes from a fairly small distillery and it’s been lightly peated. Springbank also makes heavily peated (Longrow) and non-peated (Hazelburn) whiskies.
There’s been lots of hype with the previous versions, and like batch 10, batch 13 delivers lots of character and great taste. It’s a shame I’ve only sampled Springbank 12YO CS – this whisky really is worth owning an own bottle. It’s fair to say that Springbank has started a legacy with its whiskies that are named after the distillery – with Longrow and Hazelburn brands complementing their portfolio nicely.
