Ledaig 18 year old single malt reviewJune 16, 2020
The Famous Grouse Toasted Cask is their original Famous Grouse blend after resting in freshly toasted new oak casks. So this whisky is one of the world’s most popular blends with a twist.
The original blend consists of Glenrothes, Macallan and Highland Park malt whiskies and unknown grain whisky. It’s decent stuff but not near the best blended whiskies I’ve tasted.
Toasted cask compliments the regular blend
In my opinion, this is a huge step up from the regular blend. Nice experiment by The Edrington Group, or whoever was behind this idea. This blended whisky still falls on the mediocre category, but definitely worth a try if you’re looking for cheaper quality blends.
Although the price tag is above 30€ so this is not in the cheapest category. For its price you’ll get a nice single malt too, if you have time to do research on bang for buck malt whiskies.
Famous Grouse blend finished in New Oak casks
Nose: Toffee and oak. Though one-sided, the nose is quite pleasant. Aromas of toffee are much better and stronger than in the original Famosu Grouse.
Taste: Hints of berries, lots of toffee. Oak notes are also strong.
Finish: Peat and delicate smoke.
Balance: Easy to drink but quite one-sided. Better than the original Famous Grouse blend
Brand: Famous Grouse
