The Whistler P.X. I Love You Irish Single Malt

Whistler PX I Love You whisky bottle and package

The Whistler P.X. I Love You is a small batch non-age stated (NAS) single malt whiskey from Boann distillery, based in Drogheda, Ireland.

“From milling to mashing, distilling, maturing and bottling, every elegant mouthful of Boann Single Malt and Pot Still whiskey and craft gin is created within the quietude of our unique family distillery”

Like most Irish whiskies, this one’s been triple distilled. Initially matured in ex-bourbon casks before being finished for at least 9 months in Pedro Ximenez casks.

Fresh like Ivy

Whistler PX managed to continue my general liking for Irish whiskies. Irish distillers seem to know how to make fresh and easy to drink whiskey.

I think I’m going to continue my old habit of referencing a movie – this one’s like Ivy. A movie about a teenage boy facing struggles in life, meeting Ivy, the new girl next door, emerging a “sea of new emotions” for him.

Ivy is a movie directed by 2024 Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year, Fiachra Cotter O’Culachain.

Matured in:
Ex-Bourbon barrels, finished in Ex-Sherry Pedro Ximénez casks
ABV: 46%
Colour: Gold
Non-chill filtered, no added colour
Nose: Freh and sweet sherry notes hits intensely, yet pleasantly. Dried berries mixed with sugar and oranges. Hints of raisins on the back.
Taste: Quite crispy with zesty citrus and hints of cherries. Sweet sugary notes start to level the crispiness. With nutty notes and little bit of oak dryness rising through.
Finish: Nice length, although the notes stay quite simple and mellow. Dried fruits and oak with small hints of sugars and orange peel.
Balance: Pleasant and nicely balanced dram, very easy to drink, though nothing special stands out.
