May 18, 2019Johnnie Walker Black Label review
Quick notes of Johnnie Walker 12 year old Black Label blended whisky. I am not a big fan of JW whiskies. They tend to be okay but nothing special. Old version of Green Label being the only exception in my book. So I’ll keep this review short.
Keep on walking for the next Label
I haven’t tasted Johnnie Walker Double Black, which is probably a step up from this normal version. Based on what I’ve heard from my fellow whisky enthusiasts. Since this 12YO Black Label wasn’t anything special, I’ll have to keep on walking for another JW release, hopefully I run into Double Black.
Matured in:
Ex-Sherry casks
ABV: 40%
Colour: Golden amber
Nose: Wee spicy, peppery notes are strong. Little bit of citrus and oak.
Taste: Hints of toffee and strong oak notes. Bit dry, quite spicy with barley stepping in and some wee smoke.
Finish: Dry fruity notes and spices. Orange peels and sultanas.
Balance: Better than Red Label for sure, but not as good as some of the best blends I’ve tasted. Nicely fruity but lacks in character.
