Macallan 10YO Sherry Oak and Sherry Oak Cask Strength reviews

10YO Sherry Oak – SHERRYBABY right from the start Macallan Sherry Oak is matured in selected sherry oak casks from Jerez. Unlike the Macallan Fine Oak, which is matured in different kind of casks. I got the Macallan tripack, which includes 3 x 33,3 cl of the 10YO, 12YO Elegancia and the […]

Speyburn 10 year old review

For many years, Speyburn 10 year old has been one of the cheapest single malt whiskys in Finnish liquor stores. And compared to the low price, many people might call this one a “cost efficient whisky”. If you may use that kind of term about the king of alcohol – […]

Cragganmore 14 year old (Friends of the Classic Malts) review

A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS I wouldn’t want to waste in this dram Well, I didn’t waste any dollars in Cragganmore 14 year old single malt – it was a dram in one of our whisky society’s tastings in Finland. But if I ever had bought one, I’d be very much […]

Bunnahabhain Darach Ur Batch 1 review

One or the other from THE ODD COUPLE Bunnahabhain Darach Ur is most definitely one of The Odd Couple, when it comes to whisky from Islay. The Darach Ur, which is Gaelic for New Oak, is there. But it is reasonably smooth. Overall, this un-peaty dram from Islay is a […]

Teerenpeli Kaski Distiller’s Choice review

In Finnish, Kaski means burn-beaten land. In spite of the name, Teerenpeli Kaski Distiller’s Choice isn’t like something smoky from Islay. I guess it still is a soft version of something “swidden”. I tried Teerenpeli Kaski at Grill & Distillery Taivaanranta’s distillery tour. And I have to tell you, this […]

Teerenpeli 8 year old review

Teerenpeli is the producer of first commercially available Finnish single malt whisky. The 8 year old is matured in a mixture of 200 liter Ex-Bourbon (60%) and 2nd fill Ex-Sherry (40%) casks. I had a chance to taste it when attending a distillery tour at Teerenpeli’s Grill & Distillery Taivaanranta […]

Teerenpeli 3 year old review

The first ever Finnish single malt called Old Buck, comes from Panimoravintola Beer Hunter’s from Pori. It is very hard to get your hands on it but some day I will get tasting notes of Old Buck too (edit: tasted Old Buck VYS edition). Teerenpeli comes from the city of […]

Mackmyra First Edition review

This is the first standard release by Swedish Mackmyra distillery, most of it matured in virgin Swedish oak casks. I had high hopes because of Mackmyra’s good reputation and of course I was keen on taking my first taste of Nordic single malt craftsmanship. Sad to say but this Swede […]

Knockando 1993 12 year old review

SOME LIKE IT HOT but this is mildly hot Knockando 12 year old is always a product of one single season. I got a chance to taste the 1993 version at our local whisky society tasting in Finland. If Knockando 12YO was a movie, it might be a typical Friday […]

Glen Elgin 12 year old review

KILL BILL VOL. 2 experience for me Glen Elgin 12YO is a tricky single malt. I had this one in a whisky tasting and sampling just isn’t enough for me to get a hang of it. Glen Elgin 12 years felt like a sequel to something more full. Kill Bill […]

Lagavulin 1996 Distillers Edition review

Lagavulin 1996 Distillers Edition, also stated as the double matured, is evidently their 16 year old with a Pedro Ximénez dessert sherry cask finish. A fact, that really explained a lot to me about this dram afterwards. Actually I didn’t know it before I started the tasting, even though Lagavulin 16 years […]

Lagavulin 16 year old review

WhiskyRant’s conclusions Tasting notes Other Lagavulin reviews Where can I start? Still, after over 200 whiskies tasted, my absolute favorite dram. I could go on and on about the grandeur of Lagavulin 16 year old. It is the reason, why I started my whisky tasting hobby. Whisky has been one […]

Elements of Islay Lg3 review

I have to admit, This one got me excited before I had even tasted it. Elements of Islay (by Speciality Drinks) with Lg (Lagavulin) attached to it, is something that gets my hopes high. After all, Lagavulin 16YO is my absolute favorite. Fortunately my hopes were matched. Different from the […]

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2006 review

Found a nice review of Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2006 from Dramstats. Here’s a quote from that review, which I totally agree: “I remember saying that the organic was like the laddie ten on speed. Well this is up another notch!” Islay Barley 2006 is Bruichladdich’s speedy version of Laddie Ten. […]

Bruichladdich 10 year old – The Laddie Ten review

Bruichladdich 10YO, The Laddie Ten is so far one of the biggest highlights of my “whisky tasting career”. According to Master of Malt, this is mark of an new era. I totally agree. Laddie Ten is a combo of fresh thoughts and tradition, it is like a Quentin Tarantino movie. […]

Ardbeg Corryvreckan review

Ardbeg distillery is famous for making top notch smoke whisky, their whiskies are usually peated to approximately 50 phenol parts per million (which makes the whisky very smoky). Ardbeg Corryvreckan is a legendary NAS (no age statement) whisky by the Islay based distillery, matured in a combination of first-fill American […]

Ardbeg Galileo review

Ardbeg Galileo has an age statement (1999-2012), unlike recent Ardbegs. Containing whisky matured in ex-Marsala and first and second fill ex-Bourbon casks. It has the same ppm as standard Ardbeg whiskys but the Marsala softens it quite a bit. Rich and sweet dram with an Ardbeg touch. Ardbeg Galileo is […]

Isle of Jura Superstition review

My taste buds scream: APOCALYPSE NOW! “I love the smell of napalm in the morning” The words of Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore (Robert Duvall) came to my head, when I took my first sips of Isle of Jura Superstition. Even though the smoke is very delicate in this one, the […]

Octomore 5.1 and 4.2 Comus reviews

Bruichladdich Octomore 4.2 Comus/167 ppm Bruichladdich Octomore 4.2 Comus is peated to a great 167 ppm and finished in premium, sweet Sauternes Chateau d’Yquem casks. The finish surely tames the peaty beast, but we are still talking about a very powerful dram. QUANTUM OF SOLACE with peat A big disappointment […]

Arran 10 year old review

Arran distillery was founded in 1995 and is the only distillery on the Isle of Arran, located in Lochranza. The distillery was was founded by former director of Chivas, Harold Currie. CLOCKWORK ORANGE kick in the throat Arran Malt 10 year old hasn’t got oranges in it. I just got […]

Glen Parker Speyside Single Malt review

CIDER HOUSE RULES gone bad If you know about Glen Parker Single Malt’s reputation and wonder why I bother reviewing this one, it’s because Whisky Bible’s Jim Murray gave it 86 points. Well, actually this isn’t much of a review. I can’t come up with much words for it. I hardly […]
